My research focuses on grassroots solidarity in the Red Sea region, with emphasis on how Ethiopian migrants, Yemeni refugees, and civil society activists from across the Arab world and the Horn of Africa are increasingly building a shared vision for social justice that embraces religious and ethnic pluralism. Specific case studies include: the agency of Ethiopian families repatriating from Yemen during the current war, the role of Ethiopian women in the Migrant Domestic Workers Union in Beirut, and the recent success of the Ethiopian Muslim civil liberties movement (Dimtsachin Yisema).
